"So, what are you doing tonight?" Quinn asked me over the phone as I applied a fresh coat of lipstick.
"I'm going to Isaac's birthday party," I replied.
"You're mom making you?" Quinn asked.
"Actually, no. Not this time," I answered as I dug through my makeup case looking for my eyeliner.
"You mean you're actually going willingly?" she gasped.
"Yeah," I answered. "I'm a little worried about Natalie. I thought I'd go so that she'd have someone to talk to."
"Isn't she friends with Isaac's girlfriend?" Quinn asked.
"Sort of," I replied. "But I don't think Natalie really likes her that well."
"What makes you say that?" Quinn asked.
"It's just a vibe I get," I replied.
"Oh, getting vibes now, huh?" Quinn joked. "I'm not gonna have to fight Natalie for the title of being your best friend, am I?"
"I don't think you have anything to worry about, Quinn," I smiled.
"That's good," she sighed. "Because I still feel like shit, so fighting would take too much energy."
"You're still not feeling well?" I asked.
"Nope," she answered.
"Are you pregnant?" I asked without thinking.
"Kortlyn! Why would you think that?" Quinn exclaimed.
"Well, you and Jeremy are sleeping together," I pointed out. "Have you started yet?"
"No …" she said slowly.
"And you have been sick for a couple of weeks now," I said. "So it's possible."
I waited for Quinn to say that I was wrong, but she didn't say anything. I stopped what I was doing and went and sat down on my bed.
"You are pregnant, aren't you?" I said softly.
"Yeah," she sighed.
"When did you find out?" I asked.
"A few days ago," she replied.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I exclaimed.
"I don't know," she mumbled as her voice cracked. I could tell that she was on the verge of tears. "I haven't even told Jeremy yet."
"Quinn, I'm coming over," I said.
"No, you've gotta go to Isaac's party," she said.
"Forget that," I replied. "This is much more important."
